The Ripken Experience
The Ripken Experience is a company that has two facilities that baseball and softball teams can go to for training, practice, or even tournaments. Youth (12 and under) High School (JV and Varsity) and even College Teams (Division I, II & III) flock to Aberdeen and Myrtle Beach [soon to be Pigeon Forge, Tennessee] to play at the world class facilities they have to offer. The Ripken Experience is all about fun, and safety for players to come down and enjoy their time doing something they love to do for a couple days or a couple weeks. The location is one of the best aspects about the experience. It is a top vacation destination, which makes it somewhere families can go to enjoy time with a unique baseball experience. After a long day of baseball, families can go out and enjoy all that beautiful Myrtle Beach has to offer, or just go to the beach. Along with the Unique experience, teams from the north, that could not play outside due to snow, can come to Spring Training/ Tournaments and get a step up on the competition. There is Youth and Intermediate baseball being played in Myrtle Beach, and they recently added Softball tournaments, which has added a different and exciting aspect around the complex. Along with the spring, comes the Summer Tournaments which are youth filled and fun for the entire family. This past spring, there were Division I college teams at the complex for the first time ever because of the harsh winter. Virginia (Ranked #1 in the country at the time), Virginia Tech, Toledo, Kent State (Softball), Cornell, and Old Dominion to name a few. Supervisor Profile
Allen Springs Baseball Operations Coordinator: Ripken experience Myrtle Beach. He went to Clemson University with a Bachelor of Parks and Recreation/Tourism. He graduated in 2012 and went on to work Grounds crew for the Ripken Experience in Myrtle beach. Ultimately he worked his way to a ticket agent with the Family Circle Cup in Charleston, SC where he managed the daily sales log, assisting in ticket operations, and other miscellaneous jobs that go along with it. After five months of doing this, we went back to the Ripken Experience and was the Grounds Crew Supervisor. This involved managing 5-6 employees a day, creating maintenance plans, and making turf and field repairs in the off season. After almost two years of being the Grounds Crew Supervisor, he moved his way up to being the Baseball Operations Coordinator. He hires, trains, and manages the interns that go to work there, coordinates scheduling, manages First-Aid staff, and much more. He is a very accomplished individual and I am grateful i was able to spend my internship with him doing something I love. |
